Delightful Bromyard – where there’s always something going on! Bromyard is a charming market town in East Herefordshire. Sited down the Frome Valley, with tranquil country lanes running alongside the River Frome, the region is a haven for visitors who come here to savor the peaceful environment and the timeless landscape in addition as the town’s many festivals. Among its delights are the cider orchards, hop fields and the occasional vineyard. Choose Bromyard Accommodation and take complete benefit from this lovely area. There’s a tradition of hop growing in Herefordshire that dates back to the 15th century and Bromyard can probably be said to be at the heart of it. So, with the vast majority of region’s 4,000 hop-growing acres found in the Bromyard and Ledbury areas, it isn’t surprising to find a dedicated ‘Hop Trail’ that links both towns. Another trail you can find when visiting Bromyard is the ‘Art Trail’. This comprises several specially commissioned artworks along with the Millennium Clock – which can be seen above the bay windows on the front of Flowerdew’s Tea Room and Gift Shop. The automated clock is recognized as the ‘Belle of Bromyard’ and depicts an artist and his model, whose routine performance on each hour is often described as risqué! The three works of art along the trail consist of ‘Time Tower’, ‘Resting Sheep’ and ‘Spheres of Play’ and a free leaflet with detailed information can be acquired in the local Tourist Information Centre. Bromyard has quite a few admirable buildings such as the former Police Station and the Magistrates Court. Next to the Bromyard and District Local History Society building is the old Post Office, which was built in the early 1900s and which houses regular exhibitions. The Bromyard Heritage Centre, which is found in an 18th century stable block that once belonged to a former rectory has an interesting exhibition of the area’s hop growing traditions. No one could mention Bromyard and its fascinating buildings without pointing out the delightful Teddy Bears of Bromyard Museum. Step through the door of this listed Elizabethan building and you enter another world. The toys have been collected over the best part of half a century and as you wander through the rooms and narrow passageways, you can’t fail to be enchanted by the teddy bears, dolls and prams, train sets and pedal cars and hundreds of other exhibits. One of the most thrilling memories to take away with you is the genuine Dalek with its unforgettable voice – you simply need to avoid being exterminated! Bromyard is also famed for the many and varied festivals that take place throughout the year, which includes the internationally famous Folk Festival. There’s also a Town Criers Festival, a Scarecrow Festival?and a Marmalade Festival. Other regular events hosted by the town are the Spring Festival, the Hop Festival and the ever-popular Bromyard Gala. So the next time you’re searching to take some time investigating a wonderful part of Herefordshire, come to Bromyard where there’s always something to do and see.
