The Royal Lodge at Symonds Yat East is located in an  idyllic location in the heart of the Wye Valley within
an area of outstanding natural beauty where the
River Wye cuts a swathethrough a wooded gorge on the fringe of the
spectacular Royal Forest of Dean near Ross on Wye.
The Lodge is nestled just below Symonds Yat Rock and stands exclusively in grounds of almost 5 acres overlooking the river. It offers terraced gardens of magnolia trees and a well established wisteria. The Royal was originally built-in 1876 as a Royal hunting lodge and was transformed into a hotel in the 1920's and is now operating proudly as 4 Star Guest Accommodation and is managed by Graham Howells who has overseen the transformation and ensures that the quality of service reflects the new development and idyllic location
The Royal Lodge is a superb location to unwind with long enjoyable walks in fantastic surroundings. The hotel is also well situated to explore the Wye Valley, Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and the South Wales coast.
For the more adventurous guest you will find a huge variety of adventure activities. Within walking distance of the hotel there is canoeing, kayaking, climbing and abseiling. Nearby there is golf, horse riding and caving as well as helicopter trips. The forest has miles of designated cycle routes through the woodland including special family routes (cycle-hire is available locally). A sculpture trail can be located nearby as can a high ropes course where you can get a bird's-eye view of the woodland scenery.
The Royal Lodge has 20 en-suite bedrooms which are arranged so that 19 take advantage of our unique location on the fringe of the River Wye and take full advantage of the views so that every room faces the tranquil river or gardens. We have a selection of Superior, Classic, Standard, Twin, Family and Single Rooms in addition to our 4 Poster Room which allows us to offer unrivalled flexibility. We will be delighted to discuss any special accommodation requirements you may have. All the rooms have been refurbished in the last year to ensure your relaxation and comfort.
The Royal Lodge aims to make your stay as comfortable as possible during your stay so that so that you can get the most from your break in Forest of Dean. We hope you will feel as relaxed as possible and we can offer advice on local places to visit, and walks and activities right on our doorstep to make your visit even more rewarding. The Royal Lodge has Hunters restaurant which offers fine food which is locally sourced where possible. We offer a creative and well thought out menu offering local dishes and international cuisine. In addition to our restaurant menu we offer bar snacks in our Cafe' Bar and Garden Room. Most guests prefer to eat on the sunny terraces of the hotel gardens during the summer months. We also offer Sunday lunches and a range of children's' meals. High-chairs are available on request.
