Tourist Attractions in and near Hereford

There are many attractions to be seen in the heart of the bustling city of Hereford.  Hereford city centre hoasts local farmers where visitors can view and purchase local produce fresh from the farm. The history of Hereford dates back to the Saxon ages and indeed fragments of the original Saxon wall can still be viewed today.

Hereford is a city with a magnificant Cathedral which draws visitors from far and wide. The building of the Hereford Cathedral began in the 11th century and contains magnificant Gothic architectural detail which will keep you busy with your camera.
The prize possesion of the Hereford Cathedral is the Mappa Mundi, dating back to the 13th century which is one of the earliest maps still in existance. The Mappa Mundi can be seen in the world famous Chained Library which contains over 1500 books dating back to the 8th century. Books were chained and locked during the medieval period to prevent them from disappearing.

In the heart of the Hereford city centre is the magnificant half timbered Jacobean Old House which dates back to 1621. The Old House is furnished in 17th century style over 3 floors.

Hereford Museum and Art Gallery is a spectacular Gothic building exhibiting decorative art since 1874. The building is fully accessible and access for wheel chairs is avaiable via the lift, located at the back of the library on the back floor.
